Greenland named world's hardest language to learn
Greenland is the most difficult language in the world to learn, according to a language professor who has compiled a hit list of the world's languages, writes knr.gl.
Greenlandic phrases and words are constructed in a manner that is extremely difficult for non-natives to learn, according to Rolf Theil, from the University of Oslo. An example: 'Eqeqqukequtima kukikequtaa'.
On the other end of the scale is Mandarin Chinese, which Theil says is easy to learn because it is easy to pronounce.
The most polite language is Korean. The most important is English.
The strangest linguistic sound is produced by putting the tip of the tongue against the upper lip, a sound apparently used by many Pacific island languages.
The list was published on the occasion of the European Day of Languages, on 26 September.
