Halibut Greenland has lodged a complaint with the government over the treatment the company has received in connection with getting permission to install a trading vessel in Upernavik, a town by Baffin Bay in north-western Greenland.
On 18 May, the company was granted permission by the Fishing and Hunting Department to purchase halibut form fishermen in Upernavik and Ilulissat in Disko Bay in western Greenland.
Halibut Greenland’s director Daniel Skifte said there was no limit on trading in Ilulissat. In Upernavik, however, the trading vessel was supposed to operate only in ‘new areas’.
Those limitations were subsequently changed for the better and then modified back to something worse for the company.
Halibut Greenland is now threatening to claim compensation.
